- Medium saucepan or slow cooker
- Cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer
- Glass storage container
Ingredients
- refined coconut oil1 cup (218g)
Refined has a neutral flavor; unrefined adds coconut taste
- cannabis, decarboxylated and ground medium-fine7–10g
Instructions
- 1
Ensure your cannabis is fully decarboxylated (220–240°F for 30–45 min).
- 2
Melt coconut oil in a saucepan over very low heat. Add ground cannabis and stir to combine.
- 3
Maintain 160–180°F for 2–3 hours, stirring every 30 minutes. Do not exceed 200°F or you will degrade THC.
- 4
Remove from heat and strain through cheesecloth into a glass jar, pressing firmly to extract all oil. Discard plant material.
- 5
Allow to cool. Coconut oil solidifies below 76°F — this is normal. Store at room temperature or refrigerate.
Notes & Storage
- Coconut oil is ideal for capsules because it solidifies cleanly and has no dairy.
- Store at room temperature for up to 1 month, refrigerated for 3 months, or frozen for 6 months.
- Refined coconut oil has a neutral flavor that works better in savory recipes and capsules.
Edibles take 30–120 minutes to take effect. Label all infused food clearly and store away from children. Not medical advice.
